Chemotherapy - drugs given to a breast cancer patient either pre-surgery and/or post surgery to help kill any residual cancer cells
Delayed reconstruction - breast reconstruction not done at the time the breast is removed for cancer, but done at some point weeks to months later.
Tissue expanders - a silicone elastomer sac or shell that is filled with a saline solution throughout the reconstruction process
Tissue expansion surgery - surgery done to insert the silicone sac in the pocket left void by the removal of the breast tissue
Permanent implants - final silicone elastomer sac that is placed in the pocket made by the tissue expander after it is remove
Compression vest - a tight fitting garment worn after tissue expander surgery to help reduce swelling
Nipple reconstruction - procedure done following the final placement of the permanent implant to rearrange tissue, giving elevation to it, to resemble a normal looking nipple
Nipple tattooing - final procedure done to tattoo pigment into the skin around the reconstructed nipple to give a normal appearance of color to areola and nipple tissue
