M:TA - Today

In June 2011, I celebrated 7 years cancer free - a big milestone in the cancer world. Since my cancer, I have gotten married and had two beautiful children (Jordan 4 and Drew 2). I feel very fortunate to be living my life and focusing on a healthy future. In terms of my reconstruction, I have to be honest and say that I miss the body I use to have and I think I am still grieving that a little bit from time to time. I am however still pleased with my reconstruction results and feel thankful that I look close to normal. For those of you that have been down this road you know that the scars never really go away. They fade, but there is still that reminder when you look closely at yourself that cancer was once there. Reconstruction was the right choice for me - it is not what everyone chooses and I can completely understand why that is, but for me there are no regrets.

The Myself: Together Again Project (M:TA) continues to serve as a valuable resource for women diagnosed with breast cancer and considering treatment options. We get emails from women all over the world thanking us for creating the website and the booklets. Every time I read those emails I feel a sense of peace that this project has been able to show women the real side of breast reconstruction. I feel very proud of the work that has gone into this project and I can assure you that although it is me in those pictures, I have not done this work alone over the past several years - not by a long shot. There really is an M:TA Team and that includes the wonderful people who donate money and time to this project year after year.

Booklet II Coming Soon

In this second booklet and video series, we discuss Sherri's choice to undergo a prophylactic double mastectomy with tissue expander reconstruction. Breast reconstruction has changed a lot over the years, especially since our first booklet came out in 2006 so we are bringing you the latest.
