The Myself: Together Again Events page chronicles speaking engagements, outreach opportunities, exhibits, fundraisers and celebrations that represent M:TA’s vision, support, and achievements over the past 8+ years. Based out of Raleigh, NC, cancer survivor and Project Creator, Debbie Horwitz travels all over the nation sharing her story and the M:TA books with cancer patients, supporting doctors, and hospital and clinic administrators. Debbie and the M:TA project have met with great success, enjoyment, and inspiration at these various events and we are excited to remain involved in the Raleigh/Triangle community, as well as reach new parts of the nation and the world!

ASPS Invites M:TA to Speak at Annual Conference

New Orleans, LA – October 26-30, 2012


The American Society of Plastic Surgeons offered Debbie and Sherri an opportunity to exhibit M:TA’s new book at their annual meeting.  The focus of this particular meeting was on Breast Reconstruction. Debbie also had the opportunity to speak on the main stage.

Debbie feels very fortunate to have formed this relationship with ASPS because the more surgeons who know about our books, the more patients who can be directed to the books.  There were over 3,000 surgeons in attendance at this meeting.

M:TA Honored to be Saks Key to the Cure 2012 Charity

On October 19th, 2012 M:TA was honored by Saks Department Store here in Raleigh. Saks stores all over the country celebrated their Key to the Cure weekend and each Saks chooses a charity from their city to be the recipient of some of the sales from the shopping weekend. M:TA Exhibits at Conference for Young Women

Myself: Together Again exhibited Sherri’s book at the annual Conference For Young Women (C4YW) which took place in New Orleans.  This conference is put on by Living Beyond Breast Cancer (LBBC) and Young Survivors Coalition (YSC).  This was the first place M:TA exhibited Sherri’s book and it was very well received by the people who attended this conference from all over the world.

Book II Unveiled:  A Private Evening at Saks Fifth Avenue

Debbie was the featured speaker for the Journey toward Hope: A Story of Empowerment, Survivorship, and Life After Breast Cancer event held at First Health Moore Regional Hospital in Pinehurst, North Carolina. This event was sponsored by the First Health Moore Regional Hospital Auxiliary group as part of their efforts to raise breast cancer awareness during the dedicated month of October. New Mexico State University – Tough Enough To Wear Pink

During the first week of October 2010, Debbie spoke to a very supportive crowd at New Mexico State University’s Tough Enough To Wear Pink event. Tough Enough To Wear Pink is a volunteer group dedicated to raising breast cancer awareness, supporting early intervention measures, and raising funds for cancer research. M:TA Celebrates Five Years

In May 2010, Debbie was joined by over 300 friends, sponsors, and supporters in Raleigh, North Carolina to celebrate Myself: Together Again’s 5th Year Anniversary. M:TA began in 2006 as part of a Susan G. Komen North Carolina Affiliate grant funded project and became a public charity in December of 2007.

Myself: Together Again has taken its story all over the nation and placed thousands of M:TA books in various clinics and hospitals. Opening Speaker for Jenny Allen Performance

igstigb-662x1024Debbie Horwitz spoke again at Duke Hospital, in Durham, NC, as the opening speaker for Jenny Allen’s performance of I Got Sick Then I Got Better. Allen’s performance is a one-act comedy that chronicles her trials and tribulations after falling down the medical rabbit whole. Like many women who are abruptly diagnosed with ovarian cancer, Jenny Allen struggled with diagnosis, treatment, and numerous surgeries. She saw fit to channel her fear and frustrations through comedy and artistic expression. Debbie was thrilled to be a part of this fun and exciting event. Kay Yow Pink Game at NCSU

Debbie and her family were asked to participate in the Kay Yow Pink Game at NC State in Raleigh which was designed to educate students and attendees about women’s cancers. The money raised for this event was given to the Kay Yow foundation. Debbie, her husband Evan and their two children presented the game ball to the referees and captains of NC State and South Carolina.

Women Re-Hooked Event

Debbie was invited out to San Diego to put on our Women Re-Hooked event for the Young Survivor Coalition San Diego Chapter.  The event took place at Nordstrom and the wonderful Nordstrom certified bra fitters helped women going through reconstruction get fitted into new bras and contacted the women’s insurance companies to have the bras covered.  * Women need to know that this is a service that Nordstrom offers nationwide.  Visit your local Nordstrom and ask the bra fitters how they can help.
