Hi,
It has been an eventful summer for the M:TA project. We kicked off the summer with Race for the Cure here in Raleigh, N.C. in June. Once again we had a fantastic team and raised some good dollars for our Komen Affiliate. Then in July, good friends of mine from Richmond, VA, Johnny and Tommy Knorr, (who own several restaurants on the Eastern Shore of Maryland, and have ties to restaurants all over Maryland), asked if they could do a fundraiser for M:TA. The idea is to work our way across Maryland over the next several months. We began with the first event taking place at one of their restaurants, SoBo's on the Eastern Shore in July, then have a second event in Annapolis in September, then finally a third event in Baltimore with the hope of inviting some folks from Johns- Hopkins so that they can see what the project is all about and consider providing our booklets as a resource in their hospital.
The SoBo's event was held at a wine bistro and ticket sales as well as a portion of Rose' wine sales went to M:TA and another organization- Women Supporting Women. The event had a great turn out and we were able to donate many books to Women Supporting Women, a wonderful community organization that provides awareness, friendship and support to breast cancer survivors and their families. I thoroughly enjoyed meeting Melody Bankert and Nancy Murphy, two of the staff members. These ladies and others work very hard and through money raised in their community they are able to offer free resources to those affected by breast cancer. For more information please visit www.womensupportingwomen.org.
Also, while we were visiting the Eastern Shore and the Salisbury area, we were able to donate booklets to Dr. Jason Arrington, a plastic surgeon who performs a lot of breast reconstruction surgery for patients in the surrounding areas. All and all it was a great trip and it was a pleasure meeting everyone.
We will keep you posted on other events in the Maryland area coming up in the next few months. As we travel to different states, we feel good knowing that along the way we are donating booklets and we can do that because of the generous donations that have been made to M:TA. I hope it never gets old hearing THANK YOU, but we do thank you for supporting this project and most importantly- supporting the women who benefit very much from this resource.
